Mi familia!
I just finished my first full week of proselyting in
NYC. Crazy? Yes. Smelly? yes. Awesome? Totally.
The area we live in has mostly black people that live here
so we do a lot of contacting on the subway and on the buses. That means lots of
referrals for missionaries in other areas because most of the people we talk to
live out of our area. This is okay though because we are still doing the work,
even if it's not us doing the teaching.
I feel like I have so much to tell you and not that much
time soooo...
Some highlights of the week were: .
Last Thursday we taught a lesson to an inactive member named
Edward in the church that is joined with the temple, let me just tell you that
that part of the city is SWEET!!!!!!!!! The temple is beautiful, and after the
lesson Edward bought us hot chocolate. So, in case you were wondering if it has
ever been my dream to walk around NYC at night drinking hot chocolate as a
missionary, you were right because goal totally accomplished!!!! I felt like I
was in a dream!
The other day we were tracting in the projects (I wish I
could send pics cuz it's CRAZY) and as we were knocking another lady opened her
door and said "You Mormons?" we said yeah and she said "don't
knock there, come in here" so we went into her apartment where she lives
alone with her dog and cat. It was so sad! Her apartment could have been from
"hoarding: buried alive." Really messy! She just talked to us about
her sad life and we just listened. Then we left. We went to a nicer apartment
complex and talked to a lot of non interested people (including a charming young
man from Germany ;)) and then the very last door we knocked they guy was
interested! It was funny cuz he pointed at me and said that I had talked to him
before. I hadn't. Anyway, it was a blessing to finally find someone who was
interested. Last week we taught a REAL investigator named Gerardo. I was really
nervous but the Spirit was totes there and we got through it :) We are visiting
him again this week on Friday I think. I feel like my Spanish is getting worse
and worse BUT please keep praying for me. We also talked to another lady
yesterday who pointed at me and said I had talked to her on the subway. I guess
I have a twin missionary here in New York. haha.
Also something funny that happened was we were stopped on
the street and this guy comes up to us and tried to sell us binoculars. We
started talking to him about the church and he went off on something about
Christ and kept looking at each of us and saying "listen". He said it
like a million times. He might have been high...
Anyway, the work is progressing slowly but surely! Keep me
always in your prayers as I keep you in mine!
I love you all so so so much!!
